When I was a little boy, spending my summer vacations at my Grandparents' in the Emiliana countryside, they still were using these. Because to drive the pulleys of all the machines of a full harvesting, they only needed some wood and water. We named this machine "Locomobile", since it was a locomotive using the roads like an automobile.
And this is exacly like the ones the little old me was seeing: with the driver place and a steering system. It was the "Locomobile Stradale" (roadworthy), more shortly called the "Stradale".

Love these things. As former farmers themselves, my parents took me to many Old Threshers Reunions and Antique Tractor Shows growing up. Seeing these videos brings back many fond memories.

Known as traction engines in the UK, they still hold ralleys for them.
